bringing the gold home to you.
Since 1982, ICE has been a manufacturer of amusement and arcade games, now carrying one of the largest, most prolific product ranges in the coin-operated industry. However, when their coin-op commercial business was put “on hold” due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they decided to focus their efforts on expanding business in the home market; thus ICE Home Arcade Games was born. They turned to us for help with a marketing strategy that would transition them from mainly commercial arcade realtors to residential arcade sales.
devising a game plan.
Our job was to try and build the ICE brand in the home arcade industry, showing consumers a line of arcade-quality machines, specifically made for their homes. To get started, we built a custom website from the ground up, titled HomeAracadeGames.com. The website featured a game configuration option, allowing users to customize their new game detail by detail.
During the site’s promotion, we made a concerted effort to place product imagery front and center to help show the quality of the games – while also conveying through imagery and video the additional game options they provided.
multiplayer mode.
This project was an all-hands-on-deck kind of mission, featuring creative, digital marketing, and technical efforts.
We wanted the colors to represent beloved retro games, starting with a style guide introducing new colors and gradients. Once ICE determined the concept of their website, our designers made each page with custom illustrations, animated video edits to help convey game modes, and ‘feature trees’ to help pinpoint key differences from the arcade versions. We also optimized and updated the selection process for users to see their custom-built game as they selected features; such as LED lights, custom game graphics and more. Lastly, we updated the cart layout to help provide a seamless shopping experience for the user.
Here are just a FEW of the custom features we incorporated to help bring the vision to life:
–Custom reusable modules and pages using HTML and CSS to help align with the creative vision.
–Custom sticky headers and parallax scrolling.
–Incorporation of blog/news section.
–Custom product selection visualizations.
–Consumer focused financing options and coupon integration.
a new narrative.
We have worked with ICE for decades, but had to think outside of the box for this new business venture as it was a shift in the target market. We needed to get the brand in front of a bigger audience and help them to know and buy from the brand.
The campaign included targeting consumers from multiple angles, such as awareness on Social Media, Google and Microsoft Shopping ads to help compete with direct competitors, and Google and Microsoft Search ads to catch those already searching for the ICE brand or similar home arcade products. We tried it all as we generated demand on social platforms and increased visibility when users searched in Google or other search engines. We also used a retargeting strategy to stay top of mind in the purchase funnel and lead customers back to make the purchase.
a new high score.
The ultimate goal was sales, which made the solution reasonably straightforward – launch new products, build awareness, educate the consumers, and drive customers to the site to purchase. Consumers were blown away by the new HomeArcadeGames.com website, and sales immediately spiked in the months following the launch.
Overall, ICE received positive trends in traffic, sales and overall brand equity. In the first few months of the campaign, ICE made close to $5M, seeing a 65% revenue increase and a 50% increase in purchases from the previous year!
